Great Blue Lobelia

5 Oct

This was found growing at Canaveral National Seashore. I’ve had a hard time determining exactly what it is!

Downy Lobelia (Lobelia puberula) is listed as a native in the Canaveral area. But this plant actually appears more like the Great Blue Lobelia (lobelia siphilitica) but I couldn’t find any references to that plant growing wild in Florida.

This one was about 4′ tall and just starting to bloom with it’s pretty lavender blue flowers along the thick stalk. It was growing just off the trail near pines and marsh.
