Ground Cherry

20 Aug

I initially found this plant near our local boat ramp several years ago – and just recently it popped up in my yard. Inside the husk is a berry – much like a tomatillo. The fruits are supposed to be edible when the husk turns brown and the berry reddish orange. But I’ve never found them that ripe. The raccoons and squirrels seem to know the perfect time to pick fruit!
