Rabbit Tobacco

3 Aug

Rabbit’s Tobacco aka Sweet Everlasting is a native plant that can be found growing on sunny roadsides and old pastures. It is the host plant to the American Painted Lady butterfly.

The leaves and flowers (chewed or in tea) were traditionally used to treat sore throat, colds, fevers, upset stomach, flu, coughs, bowel disorders and mouth ulcers. It was also used as a mild  sedative and diuretic. The fresh juice was considered an aphrodisiac.

No, I haven’t tried it!

Nice shot! I like that it seems somewhat muted in color. To me that adds interest. Great job.

Thanks! It does have a silvery look, almost like Dusty Miller.
